Hervitas

Hervitas is an addiction care organization focused on people with a gambling or gaming addiction. The employees of Hervitas know all about it or are experts by experience themselves.

What makes hervitas special?

While most institutions help people with various addictions, as a client of Hervitas you are surrounded by people who also have a gambling or gaming addiction. This ensures that you will quickly find recognition in your groupmates. The groups are relatively small, with a maximum of 6 people per group, which means that you become very close as a group.

How does treatment at Hervitas work?

During treatment you learn more about the function of your addiction and what gambling does to your body and brain.

Treatment at Hervitas lasts three weeks and you are present every working day. After treatment you can simply go home. The day always has a fixed format: you start together, after which you follow a presentation. You do assignments from a workbook and have an individual conversation with your counselor.

Each week has a theme of what you will be working on that week:

Week 1: recognition and acknowledgement; you acknowledge and recognize the seriousness of your addiction.

Week 2: surrender; you want to adjust your life to deal with the disease.

Week 3: perpetuation; you make sure that you organize your life differently so that you are no longer tempted to gamble again.

Every Thursday afternoon there is room to invite family or loved ones to join you in conversation. An important part of your recovery is the role of your family and friends!

After three intensive weeks, you are not just released. There are aftercare sessions every Monday evening. These sessions are led by a licensed therapist and are therefore not ordinary talk group sessions. Hervitas recommends that you attend these groups regularly.

What else is important?

The small groups and short waiting time are a big plus at Hervitas. In addition, Hervitas is the only organization in the Netherlands that focuses solely on people with a gambling or gaming addiction, so you will be in contact with a group of like-minded people. The Hervitas team is small and the counseling is personal.
